This morning we were up and at em early. The girls worked on some Easter crafts and Alton worked in his handwriting book. They actually had their school breakfast at breakfast time. I'm not joking, they eat everything in sight. Well this morning, Alton decided to make freshly pummeled orange juice. Then V joined in. They had fun, were entertained, and made quite a mess. But they had fun.
D trimmed off all the roots on the leeks we picked yesterday. He took the kids on the hill to replant the roots so we have another place to dig for them next year. It was really nice not having the kids at home while I had a zoom meeting.
Our final amount of leeks. The kids liked seeing the whole process and learning how food ends up at our table. They were not huge fans of all the work involved, but they participated through each of the phases. I did all the cutting though, they aren't ready for Cutco.
I cut up what fresh veggies we had left and even had enough ham to make a great batch of leek soup. V had two bowls of it for dinner. I know now I could have added more leeks, but the kids gobbled it up, so I count that as a win. I made a large batch of leek dip too. That's basically what I snacked on all day long with carrots. My fingers are starting to get stained now that we are eating more whole carrots and not just baby carrots.
I was so wrapped up in getting all the leeks prepped that I almost forgot my facebook live date with my students. I have been going live each day at 10. That way my kids can see me live and chat back in the comments. I had told them the night before to grab their copies of There was an old woman who swallowed a rose. They each got their own copy last month, and this way they could read along with me. I have all but one person on my fb group. Today I had 4-5 kids online when I went live, it was the best turnout yet! I snuck outside to go live because it was a beautiful day and then I didn't have to deal with my own kids being naughty. As I was finishing up Alton came out, pulled out a tire and created his own outdoor desk to practice his letters. Love this!
Later in the day the girls played in the ditch and rescued the basketball. Callie fell in again. I think she just loves getting dirty. She's a tough cookie. V kept walking down to the other end as far as she could go. At one point she had a snow shovel getting the old leaves out of the ditch.
Altonio has been spending a lot of time outside shooting his bow with his daddio. He's getting really good and loves it. I love seeing how much he enjoys all things outdoors with his dad. On any given day he wants to be outside shooting his bow, fishing, or catching minnows.
This is our new friend. We think it's a milk snake. It's only about the thickness of my little finger, but it's about 18 inches long. It lives in the cinder blocks by the basement door. The kids like looking for it when we go outside, but I'm teaching them to keep their distance. At least it's not a copperhead.
This was one of V's assignments: what are 5 signs of spring?
D took the bigs down river again. Uncle Nick went with them in his kayak-they kept their social distance and I got some one on one time with this little princess. We sat in the front yard and made bracelets, necklaces, rings, an anklets. She was in heaven. We made different patterns and different sized beads. It's the "B" brand-I would highly recommend this set to anyone with littles. The pieces all snap together. Love it!
We walked to the river and some trails but then nugget was done and we did 4 paw patrol puzzles and 5 frozen puzzles. Of course we listed to all the Frozen 2 songs as we puzzled.
She wound down, chose a PBS show and passed out on me. Totally normal. She always sleeps on top of me. Just because we were in a chair, why would anything be different?
No social distancing here.
